Prices for Garden Strawberries in Ukraine Have Fallen Due to Increased Supply from Western Regions

This week in Ukraine, there has been a significant decrease in prices for garden strawberries from local farms. The main reason for this trend, according to experts, is the rapid increase in the volume of berries entering the market from farms in the western regions of the country. At the same time, demand for strawberries remains moderate, as the quality of the product has declined due to unfavorable weather conditions in recent weeks.

Sharp Price Drop Amid Competition and Product Quality
Producers emphasize the high level of competition and low quality indicators of the berries, which forced them to reduce prices to stimulate sales. Just last weekend, farmers were selling garden strawberries from greenhouses at prices no lower than 220–260 UAH/kg ($5.31–6.27 USD/kg). However, at the beginning of the current week, following the start of berry harvesting from film greenhouses in the southern and western regions, the price dropped immediately by 35% — to 120–190 UAH/kg ($2.90–4.59 USD/kg), depending on the quality and size of the batches.
Price Forecast and Weather Impact on Harvest
Currently, the market has not yet reached the peak supply of local garden strawberries — a mass influx of berries is expected at the beginning of next month. However, further price trends remain uncertain.
According to farmers from almost all regions of Ukraine, early varieties of berries have suffered losses of 30% to 100% due to the frosts in April and May of this year.
This factor, in the opinion of specialists, could radically change the current situation in the market and influence future price formation.
Despite the current decrease in prices, garden strawberries in Ukraine are still being sold at an average of 45% higher than during the same period last year.
