In Ukraine, there is a continued decline in prices for greenhouse cucumbers. Over the past week, average wholesale prices have dropped by another 15%, currently ranging from 25 to 48 UAH per kilogram (0.60-1.16 USD per kilogram). This is significantly cheaper than at the end of the previous working week.

Reasons for the Price Decrease

The main reason for the price drop, according to producers, is the increase in supply from summer greenhouses, especially in the southern regions of the country. There, cucumbers are being sold at an average of 18 UAH per kilogram (0.43 USD per kilogram), which further pressures the market and contributes to a decrease in vegetable prices overall.

“Currently, wholesale prices for cucumbers in Ukraine are already on average 17% lower than a year ago. Moreover, further price reductions for the vegetable cannot be ruled out, as supply will continue to increase while sales rates are declining.”

Current Retail Prices

In the largest Ukrainian supermarkets, there is also a noticeable difference in cucumber pricing. For instance, in the Silpo chain, the minimum price for a kilogram of cucumbers is 57.70 UAH, in ATB it is 49.89 UAH per kilogram, while in Varus, vegetables can be purchased for 49.90 UAH per kilogram with a discount.

Experts predict that given the ongoing increase in supply and decreasing sales rates, the trend of further price reductions for cucumbers may continue.
