Main Stages of Reconstruction
The reconstruction project covered a section of the canal 2.6 km long and included several important stages:
- restoration of the canal profile and reinforcement of the slopes;
- installation of a polyethylene membrane and concrete lining to reduce filtration losses;
- replacement of reinforced concrete slabs and sealing of joints between them;
- dismantling of old pipes with a diameter of 1200 mm and laying of new structures.
Improvement of Water Supply for the Agricultural Sector
Oleg Kiper noted that before the reconstruction, the canal operated at only 45% efficiency, leading to significant water losses and complicating the operation of pumping stations. After the work was completed, the efficiency of the canal increased to 90%, ensuring a stable water supply for agricultural needs.
The reconstruction of the Nahirnyanska irrigation system is part of a comprehensive program for the modernization of irrigation systems in the Odesa region, funded by the regional budget. These measures aim to increase the irrigated area by 4,800 hectares.
