Restoration of Wheat Vegetative Mass After Winter is a Priority for Farmers

At the agricultural enterprise “Poltava Agro,” this year’s winter has proven to be less detrimental for wheat crops compared to rapeseed. According to the farm manager Mykola Shamrytskyi, only 1–2% of the wheat area has suffered from adverse conditions, while the rapeseed fields are in significantly worse condition. The restoration of wheat vegetation began recently, and the farm has already completed nitrogen fertilization.

Wheat Restoration and Weather Conditions

In the agrarian’s opinion, the main task for wheat in April is to restore the vegetative mass that the crop lost during the winter period. This year, particular attention is required for those fields that entered winter unbranched. According to meteorologists’ forecasts, 5–7 mm of precipitation is expected in the coming days, which should positively affect the condition of the plants and promote their development during the spring recovery phase.

“Currently, the key task for this crop is to restore the vegetative mass that it lost over the winter. The situation is complicated by the fact that a significant portion of the crops entered winter unbranched, so this season, wheat requires special attention. In the coming days, 5-7 mm of precipitation is forecasted, which is precisely the minimum that it critically needs right now,” notes Mykola Shamrytskyi.

Situation with Winter Crops in the Fields

In the structure of the farm’s crops, only wheat remains among the winter crops, occupying approximately 15% of the total area. In contrast, winter rapeseed will need to be reseeded due to significant damage. Thus, wheat is currently the focus of farmers, who have every chance of recovery under favorable weather conditions and properly organized agronomic practices.
