Returning to Work After the Liberation of Kherson Region

According to the wife of the deceased, Natalia Fedorchuk, Mykhailo returned to his native village immediately after the region was de-occupied. He did not hesitate and quickly resumed his agricultural activities—cultivating fields, sowing grain crops, and ensuring the food security of the community.

“He loved life, his family, and his work,” Natalia wrote. “And then some Russian behind the drone’s controls took all of that away from him. Just like that, with the push of a button.”

Tragic Day in the Field

On that day, Mykhailo was engaged in sowing winter barley. Upon returning to the base for seeds, he stopped the vehicle to continue working. It was at that moment that the enemy drone struck the car.

His assistant was in the cabin with Mykhailo. Both sustained serious injuries. Due to the constant threat of shelling in the frontline area, emergency assistance does not always arrive quickly—this time, they had to wait over an hour. Eventually, a volunteer was able to transport the injured to the regional hospital in Kherson.

Despite all the efforts of the medical staff, they were unable to save Mykhailo’s life: his injuries were incompatible with life. Another farmer, who supported the country with his labor, fell victim to the actions of the occupiers.

The wife of the deceased emphasized the targeted attempts to destroy the civilian population and agricultural workers who ensure the food security of the state. After all, Mykhailo was not a military man, posed no threat—he was simply sowing barley on his own land.

The tragic death of Mykhailo Fedorchuk is yet another reminder of the high price Ukrainians pay for freedom. The war is raging not only on the front lines but also in the fields, where peaceful citizens are trying to live and work despite the constant danger. Russian aggression does not distinguish between military and civilian—every Ukrainian on their own land is at risk.

Note: Bilozirka is a village in the Kherson district, liberated from Russian occupation in the fall of 2022. The settlement is currently under constant shelling due to its proximity to the front line.
