Sales Analysis: Potatoes Lead, Berry Prices Decrease

Last week, interesting changes were observed in the fruit and vegetable markets, affecting both prices and sales volumes. Potatoes remained the sales leader, while their prices are decreasing, which is good news for consumers.

It is noteworthy that last week, the EastFruit Trade Platform group saw a 10% decrease in the number of announcements, but the geography of participants expanded to 13 countries. In particular, the commodity supply from Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Iran decreased, while participants from Poland and Macedonia became more active.

Price Situation in the Regions

Analyzing the price dynamics, an increase in the prices of last year’s cabbage and carrots is observed in Ukraine. Potato producers are forced to lower prices, but new batches of greenhouse tomatoes, which are more expensive than imports, are raising the price of tomatoes. At the same time, radishes, eggplants, and zucchinis have become cheaper.

In Uzbekistan, potatoes have also started to decrease in price, and the first offers of new crop onions have appeared on the market. Prices for cucumbers have sharply fallen. In Egypt, on the contrary, there is an increase in the prices of potatoes and oranges, and the ban on lemon exports from Turkey has led to a rise in prices for Egyptian lemons.

“Last year, the sales leader was bulb onions, which were cheaper than today,” experts note.

It is also important that in the technology segment, offers remain stable, particularly, seedlings of fruit and berry crops continue to be popular.

Thus, the market situation continues to change, and experts expect further fluctuations in prices and supply volumes in the near future.
