Tender Conditions and Delivery Schedule
According to the announcement, the wheat will be delivered from August to October 2025. The import is expected to consist of 11 batches of grain with a protein content of 12.5%, with no restrictions on the regions of origin. Deliveries will be distributed among the main ports of the country:
- 240,000 tons — Jeddah Port, from August 15 to November 15, 2025
- 240,000 tons — Yanbu Port, from August 15 to October 15, 2025
- 120,000 tons — Dammam Port, from August 15 to September 30, 2025
- 55,000 tons — Jizan Port in the first half of October 2025
Impact on Food Security and Import Strategy
GFSA Chairman Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al-Faris emphasized that “the tender is aimed at meeting the growing needs of Saudi Arabia’s milling companies and ensuring an adequate supply of wheat to support the food industry.” According to him, this initiative will also help strengthen national food security, and the authority aims to guarantee quality wheat at acceptable prices for consumers in the domestic market.
It is worth noting that this tender is a continuation of the consistent procurement policy that Saudi Arabia is implementing in 2025. Earlier this year, the country signed agreements to import 920,000 tons of wheat from various parts of the world, including the European Union, North and South America, Australia, and the Black Sea region. Such diversification of suppliers allows the state to reduce risks associated with price fluctuations in the global market and potential disruptions in supply chains.
