Sowing Campaign in Ternopil Region: Results and Forecasts for 2025

The active sowing campaign continues in the Ternopil region, during which it is planned to sow 856.4 thousand hectares for the 2025 harvest. According to Volodymyr Stakhiv, the director of the Department of Agricultural Development of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, winter grain crops have already been sown on an area of 196 thousand hectares, which is 12.9 thousand hectares more than last year.

Condition of Winter Crops

Volodymyr Stakhiv noted that winter wheat occupies 178.8 thousand hectares, winter rye — 1.6 thousand hectares, winter barley — 15.6 thousand hectares, and winter rapeseed has been sown on an area of 75.9 thousand hectares. He emphasized that seedlings have emerged on all areas, with 60.3% of winter grains in good condition, 34.5% in satisfactory condition, and only 5.2% being weak or sparse. Regarding winter rapeseed, the situation is even better: 78% of the area is in good condition, 18.5% in satisfactory condition, and 3.7% are weak and sparse.

Forecasts and Plans for Spring Crops

Volodymyr Stakhiv also reported that it is planned to sow spring crops on 584.3 thousand hectares, including grains and legumes. As of March 27, 58.7 thousand hectares have already been sown, including:

• Spring wheat — 14.0 thousand hectares;
• Spring barley — 36.8 thousand hectares;
• Oats — 3.6 thousand hectares;
• Peas — 3.7 thousand hectares;
• Spring rapeseed — 0.5 thousand hectares.

Additionally, 1594.5 tons of plant protection products have already been purchased, including 25.1 tons of seed treatment agents (86%).

“The sowing campaign in the Ternopil region is proceeding according to forecasts. Winter crops have overwintered well, which gives reason to hope for a good harvest. Weather conditions are favorable for the active sowing of spring crops, and farmers continue their work as planned,” stated Volodymyr Stakhiv.

It is also worth noting that the further development of the grain and oil market in Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be discussed at the 23rd International Conference, which will take place on April 24 in Kyiv.
