Harvesting Rates and Regional Characteristics
As of the end of May, 80.7% of soybean crops have been harvested in the country — this is 6.4% more compared to the previous week. However, the slowest progress in harvesting is occurring in the northern part of Buenos Aires province, where recent heavy rains have complicated access to the fields and delayed the operation of harvesting machinery.
Early soybean crops have already been harvested at 86%. Meanwhile, the average yield across the country stands at 3090 kg/ha (46.0 bushels/acre). The differences in figures between regions are significant: in the northeastern part of Argentina, the yield is the lowest at 1200 kg/ha (17.8 bushels/acre), while in the northern central region, it reaches 3740 kg/ha (55.7 bushels/acre). Such disparities indicate a substantial impact of climatic conditions and agronomic technologies on yield.
Impact of Weather Conditions on Yield
According to the weekly report from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, as of May 28, 2025, soybean yields have decreased compared to April, when the average was at 4000 kg/ha (59.0 bushels/acre). Changes in yield and harvesting rates demonstrate that weather conditions remain a key factor in the success of the agricultural season.
“The soybean harvest forecast in Argentina for the 2024/2025 season remains unchanged at 48.5 million tons with a neutral sentiment, reports the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange.”
