The Ukrainian agricultural market has faced another sharp decline in prices: during the first half of January 2026, the price of soybeans dropped by 600 hryvnias per ton, setting a new record low for the industry.

Market Dynamics and Key Changes for Farmers

Not long ago, soybean prices allowed agricultural enterprises to plan their activities for the near future. However, the situation has drastically changed: processing plants and exporters have begun to significantly reduce their purchase prices. This trend has had a substantial impact on the financial condition of large farms. The decrease in price from 18,300 to 17,700 hryvnias per ton is not just a statistic – for large producers, it means multimillion losses, for which no compensations are currently provided.

The market is experiencing a standoff: farmers are trying to hold onto their products in anticipation of better prices, while buyers hope for further declines. During periods of high yields, producers effectively become hostages to their own productivity. Excess supply in the domestic market forces sellers to agree to unfavorable terms set by processors.

Factors Behind the Rapid Decline in Soybean Prices and Future Prospects

The main reason for this dramatic fall lies in the oversaturation of the market with raw materials. Processing enterprises are already operating at full capacity, and the queues for unloading only confirm that the volume of supply significantly exceeds demand. This is a typical example of a market economy, where an excess of products leads to the devaluation of the labor of thousands of people.

In addition to internal reasons, there are also difficulties with exports. Export channels are operating inconsistently, and international trends only complicate the situation. Major players in the global market dictate their own terms, forcing Ukrainian producers to adapt to new, often unfavorable realities.

“Future forecasts currently appear quite vague, and no one can guarantee that the decline will stop at this level. Farmers are left with the choice to either take risks and wait for better times or to lock in losses today. In this game, the one with the strongest nerves and the largest storage facilities for long-term preservation wins.”

In the current conditions, a key factor is the ability of farmers to store their products while waiting for more favorable prices. This strategy allows them to avoid immediate losses, but it requires additional resources and carries risks.
