Spring Protection of Fruit Trees: Effective Methods for Combatting Diseases

Spring Protection of Fruit Trees: Effective Methods for Combatting Diseases

According to experts, this year’s winter weather has posed a serious challenge for fruit trees, berry bushes, and vineyards. Prolonged periods of low temperatures have caused frost damage and physical injuries to the plants, making them particularly vulnerable to infection by phytopathogens as spring arrives.

As temperatures rise and humidity increases, the overwintering stages of disease agents, which are found on fallen leaves and in cracks in the bark, become active. This creates potentially significant risks for the future harvest of fruit crops.

Comprehensive Approach to Spring Garden Protection

For reliable protection against fungal and bacterial infections, specialists recommend implementing a set of measures that includes:

  • Sanitary Measures: conducting detailed monitoring of the garden and timely removal of sources of pathogen spread, such as infected branches, fallen leaves, and mummified fruits.
  • Contact Protection: using products based on copper oxychloride (specifically, “Violis”), which form a protective barrier on the surface of plants and prevent the penetration of disease agents.
  • Systemic Approach: combining contact fungicides with systemic products according to anti-resistance programs, which enhances the effectiveness of protection and prevents the development of resistance in pathogens.

Use of Modern Copper-Based Products

Among the effective means for spring treatment of plants, copper hydroxide (“Hart”) stands out, noted for its rapid distribution on the surface of plants and the absence of chlorine ions in its composition. This is particularly important for crops sensitive to chlorine.

“These measures allow for the localization of the spread of scab, clasterosporiosis, and leaf curl at early stages of vegetation.”

The comprehensive application of sanitary measures, contact protection, and modern fungicides containing copper ensures effective counteraction against the main diseases of fruit crops in spring and contributes to the preservation of the harvest.
