By the end of April, the agro-meteorological conditions for the development of most agricultural crops in Ukraine remained predominantly favorable. According to specialists from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, in the third decade of the month, optimal moisture levels were observed in all soil layers, which was related to the low level of moisture consumption due to the slow development of plants.

Development Rates of Crops and the Impact of Weather Conditions

The early spring crops at the end of April were at the stage of mass germination. For winter crops, where the formation of reproductive organs continued or had begun, the agro-meteorological conditions were also satisfactory. At the same time, experts noted that plant development was slowing down due to a lack of heat.

“The moisture supply for agricultural crops in all soil layers was optimal and sufficient due to low moisture consumption, as active plant development was not observed due to the slow accumulation of heat.”

Changes in Crop Conditions and Resistance to Weather Factors

In some areas, yellowing of leaves was recorded in winter wheat and spring barley, which was a result of cold weather. However, as before, spring frosts practically did not harm winter crops and the early spring seedlings, as these plants demonstrated resistance to the temperatures observed during the frosts.
