The active harvest of strawberries has begun in Ukraine, with fields and greenhouses across various regions filled with ripe berries. This year’s season started earlier than usual due to a warm spring; however, the situation regarding yield and prices remains ambiguous.

Price Dynamics for Strawberries in June 2025

Traditionally, during the peak season, there is a trend of decreasing prices for strawberries. However, despite the drop, this year’s berries are significantly more expensive than in May-June 2024 — 22-45% higher than last year’s levels.

At the beginning of June, average wholesale prices and prices in some retail chains were around 270-320 UAH/kg, but in certain supermarkets, they reached 400-550 UAH/kg. By mid-month, further decreases were noted: according to data from June 6-7, the average price was about 269 UAH/kg, and on June 8-9, it was 287.10 UAH/kg.

  • Wholesale Markets: strawberries can be purchased for 60-120 UAH/kg (second grade or large batches) and 160-190 UAH/kg for high-quality products.
  • Supermarkets: prices vary significantly: from 165 UAH/kg (for example, Varus) to 550 UAH/kg (MegaMarket). On June 9, for instance, Auchan sold strawberries for 287.10 UAH/kg.

Comparison with Last Year: Even with the decrease, current prices remain 22-45% higher than in May-June 2024.

Leading Regions and the Impact of Weather Conditions on Harvest

According to the State Statistics Service, the largest volumes of strawberries are traditionally grown in Vinnytsia region — about 18 thousand tons annually. Following are Odesa (approximately 5 thousand tons), Volyn (4 thousand tons), Kherson (3.7 thousand tons), and Lviv (3.5 thousand tons) regions. Overall, Ukraine harvests between 56 to 62 thousand tons of this berry each year.

This season started a few weeks earlier due to an abnormally warm spring. At the same time, April frosts damaged the harvest, especially in the western regions: in some farms in Lviv and Ternopil regions, losses reached 20-40%. These factors have influenced the starting prices and overall volumes of strawberries in the market.

Forecasts suggest that in the second half of June, when supply will be at its peak, prices for strawberries will continue to decrease. The lowest prices are expected at the beginning of the conservation season when yields reach their maximum.
