According to the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories of India (NFCSF), in the 2025/2026 marketing year, sugar production in the country increased by 8% to 27.39 million tons. In comparison, the previous season’s figure was 25.43 million tons. The main growth was driven by factories in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. For the entire 2024/2025 marketing year (October-September), a total of 26.2 million tons of sugar was produced.
Forecast for the End of the Season and Regional Dynamics
As the current sugar season in India will last until September 30, analysts predict the possibility of further production growth due to a second processing season in the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in August-September. Currently, there are 21 factories operating in the country, with the largest number—11—located in Tamil Nadu, 9 in Uttar Pradesh, and one in Haryana. The factories in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are expected to cease operations by the end of the month.
