Sunflower Planting Has Started in 7 Regions of Ukraine: Current Data on Crops

As of early April, the planting campaign for spring crops is actively ongoing in all regions controlled by Ukraine. According to operational information, as of April 6, 828.3 thousand hectares have been sown with grain and leguminous crops, which accounts for 14% of the planned areas. Approximately 60.7 thousand hectares have been sown with technical crops by this date.

Details of Sown Areas for Grains

Among the main spring grain crops, the largest sown areas currently include:

  • wheat — 111.1 thousand ha (60% of the forecast),
  • barley — 420.9 thousand ha (56%),
  • peas — 186.1 thousand ha (68%),
  • oats — 86.5 thousand ha (63%).

Development of Technical Crop Planting

The sunflower planting campaign has already begun by farmers in seven regions: Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Rivne, Sumy, and Ternopil. As of the reporting date, 18.3 thousand hectares have already been sown with this crop.

“As of April 6, the planting of spring crops has started in all regions controlled by Ukraine. As of the reporting date, 828.3 thousand ha have been sown with grain and leguminous crops (14% of the projected areas). Technical crops have been sown on 60.7 thousand ha.”

This week, soybeans were not sown by farmers; however, previously, 0.05 thousand hectares of this crop were sown in the Lviv region.

Regarding sugar beets, their sown area is 42.3 thousand hectares. Work has started in Volyn, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, and Khmelnytsky regions.
