Asparagus Market: Trends and Quality Standards
Consultant for growing and storing asparagus, Pavlo Bulhakov, notes that the Ukrainian asparagus market remains quite unstable. Many consumers have not yet formed clear preferences regarding this product, causing buyer behavior to fluctuate often. At the same time, large enterprises are increasingly focusing on high standards: products must reach consumers with well-formed bundles, fresh cuts, and without tough fibers. This quality directly influences pricing policy — consumers are willing to pay more for quality asparagus.
Price Dynamics of Asparagus in Ukraine
“Last year, at the peak of the season, the wholesale price of asparagus dropped to 220 UAH per kilogram, but in the retail market, it remained stable — around 400 UAH per kilogram.”
The expert emphasizes that despite fluctuations in wholesale prices, the retail price of asparagus in Ukraine remains at a fairly high level. This is explained by both the constant demand in the segment of consumers who value quality and the rising costs of cultivation and logistics.
