The head of the company “Dolina-Agro”, Oleg Baziuk, emphasized that the new varieties were selected based on several criteria: berry size, yield, taste qualities, bush architecture, ease of harvesting, shelf life, firmness, color, and disease resistance.

Currently, the new varieties do not have official names, only working ones – Blue 24-01, Blue 24-02, and Blue 24-03. All of them belong to mid-late varieties, with a ripening period from August 10 to 31.

“The fruits must have an optimal balance of acidity and sugars. This way, the taste of the berries is more intense. These new varieties will produce such delicious berries. Their Brix exceeds 14. In terms of firmness, the varieties meet our requirements. An important characteristic is the dry detachment. In terms of shelf life, the new varieties surpass the well-known Liberty, Duke, and Bluegold. The expected stable yield is 5 kg per mature bush. One of the varieties will definitely be suitable for mechanical harvesting. The fruits are firm enough and have a small diameter, up to 20 mm, which means they will be less damaged during harvesting by the combine. The heavier and larger the berry, the more it gets damaged during mechanical harvesting. In terms of firmness, the fruits of the new varieties exceed those of Liberty and Elliott,” noted Oleg Baziuk.
