Growing high-yield potatoes requires consideration of many factors, among which the quality of the soil, the proper choice of variety, adherence to modern cultivation technologies, and the application of effective methods for disease and pest control are particularly important.

Preparing Potatoes for Planting

Before planting, it is recommended to treat the tubers with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or the product “Fitosporin.” This procedure will help disinfect the planting material and reduce the risk of diseases.

Planting Techniques and Care

The planting depth of potatoes should correspond to the weather conditions. During a cold spring, it is advisable not to bury the tubers more than 5–7 cm deep to avoid growth delays.

To prevent diseases and provide potassium to the plants during hilling, a handful of ash should be added under each bush. The first hilling is best done when the shoots reach a height of 15–20 cm — this stimulates the formation of additional tubers.

It is equally important to follow crop rotation: it is not recommended to plant potatoes in the same spot for several consecutive years, as this contributes to the accumulation of disease-causing agents and pests in the soil.

Tip: Plant marigolds or mustard in the rows — they repel pests and improve the soil!
