Logistical Challenges and Impact on Exports

Despite high production figures, Ukrainian exporters are facing a number of complex circumstances that limit their ability to access foreign markets. In particular, overloaded logistics chains and high transportation costs are causing producers to refrain from active sales in hopes of better conditions. This strategy may lead to a loss of market share due to increased competition from other suppliers.

This creates a delayed supply effect, as producers hold back on sales while waiting for better conditions. Such behavior potentially increases the risk of losing market share to competitors. At the same time, current sales remain less profitable due to high logistics costs.

Export Dynamics to Italy and Price Situation

In October 2025, corn exports from Ukraine amounted to about 1 million tons, significantly lower compared to 1.9 million tons during the same period last year. Approximately 500,000 tons were sent to European countries, with a significant portion going to Italy.

In the Italian market, spot prices have decreased by 5 euros over the week. In Ukraine, however, prices for spot deliveries remain stable until the end of November, while contracts for supply in December-January show a decrease of 2-3 dollars. The spot price index for corn with delivery within 30 days has risen by 2 dollars to a level of 208 dollars per ton.

Ukrainian exporters have already made sales of approximately 300,000 tons of corn, which is being transported by rail through the western border to Italy. Signed contracts provide for deliveries until June 2026, and the projected total volume of corn exports from the 2025 harvest to the Italian market could reach 1 million tons. The transshipment takes place at the Chop station with subsequent loading into Euro wagons.

Prices for contracts to Italy are: 182-183 euros per ton for the period of November-December 2025, 184-185 euros per ton for January-June 2026 — including delivery in Euro wagons. Additionally, the first sales of corn from the 2026 harvest have already begun at a price of 185 euros per ton for November-December 2026.
