Ukraine Increased Rapeseed Supplies to Germany by 28% in the First Half of the Season
In 2024, Germany experienced a decline in rapeseed yields compared to the previous year. Despite a reduction in domestic supplies, rapeseed imports in the first half of the 2024/25 season will remain lower than last year’s volumes, according to information provided by the Union for the Promotion of Oilseeds and Grain Cultivation in Germany (UFOP).

According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, Germany imported about 3.1 million tons of rapeseed in the first half of the 2024/25 marketing year, which is 8% less than in the same period last year. Ukraine continues to hold a leading position among rapeseed supplying countries, delivering 1.3 million tons to the German market, which is 28% higher than the figures for the same period last year.
Forecasts for Rapeseed Supplies
According to information from Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, the pace of rapeseed supplies may slow down in the second half of the marketing year due to a predicted harvest decrease of approximately 21% compared to last year. At the same time, particular attention is drawn to the second wave of supplies from Australia, which ranks second among producers. Germany has already received 378.9 thousand tons of rapeseed from Australia, more than double the figures from last year (161 thousand tons).
From neighboring EU countries, Germany received about 1.4 million tons of rapeseed, which is 32% less than in the same period last year. The largest amount of rapeseed was imported from Lithuania — 337 thousand tons, followed by France – 310 thousand tons and Romania – 237 thousand tons.
Germany as the Main Rapeseed Importer in the EU
Germany holds the position of the largest net importer of rapeseed in the EU, with average procurement volumes ranging from 5.5 to 5.7 million tons. The country’s oil mills process about 9.4 million tons of rapeseed annually, making rapeseed exports significantly lower than import volumes. In the first six months of the current season, Germany exported about 32.9 thousand tons of rapeseed, which is 6% more than in the same period last year, despite the decrease in harvest. The main export destinations for German rapeseed are other EU member states, including Belgium (approximately 9.1 thousand tons), Poland (4.1 thousand tons), and the Netherlands (3.8 thousand tons).
The further development of the grain and oil market in Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be discussed at the 23rd International Conference, which will take place on April 24 in Kyiv. We invite you to participate in strategic discussions and networking with industry leaders!
