Ukraine Leads the Market for Sunflower Meal and Cake in China

Over the past six years, Ukraine has significantly increased its supply of sunflower meal and cake to China. In 2024, according to the information from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, this volume reached 2.53 million tons, which is 14% less than the previous year. In particular, in December 2024, the supply volumes amounted to 127.2 thousand tons, which is 63.9% less compared to December 2023.

Ukraine’s Share in the Chinese Market

Approximately 72.4% of the total export of sunflower cake and meal to China comes from Ukraine, totaling 1.83 million tons. Supplies from Russia account for 14% of the market, or 354.9 thousand tons, while Bulgaria contributes 11.6% or 292.1 thousand tons. Supplies from Kazakhstan make up only 2%, or 50.6 thousand tons. Other countries did not supply any products.

Prices for Sunflower Meal and Cake in 2024

The average cost of supplying sunflower meal and cake to China in 2024 was 325.9 USD per ton, which is 17.2% less than in 2023. The lowest prices for sunflower meal and cake in 2024 were recorded from Kazakhstan at 217.2 USD/ton. Prices for products from Ukraine were 324.6 USD/ton, from Russia 331.6 USD/ton. The highest cost was for supplies from Bulgaria at 346.5 USD/ton. In December 2024, the average price at Chinese customs was 292 USD/ton, which is 25.9% less than the previous year.
