In Ukraine, over a third of the planned areas for winter barley have been sown

Active sowing of winter crops continues in Ukraine. As of October 2025, farmers have already sown winter grains on 2.876 million hectares, which is 55.4% of the planned areas for the current season. Winter barley holds a special place among them: this crop has already been sown on 179.2 thousand hectares, accounting for 31.1% of the projected volumes.

Regional Differences in the Sowing Rates of Winter Barley

The rates of sowing winter barley vary significantly between regions. For instance, in Volyn, the sowing of this crop has already been completed — farmers have accomplished 100% of the planned work. Meanwhile, in Odesa region, only 2.5% of the projected area has been sown. Kyiv region demonstrates an overachievement of the plan: 12.2 thousand hectares of winter barley have already been sown here, which exceeds the initial forecasts by 74% (7 thousand hectares were planned).

Leaders in Planned and Actual Sowing Areas

Among the leading regions for planned areas for winter barley:

• Odesa region — 180 thousand hectares;
• Mykolaiv region — 110 thousand hectares;
• Dnipropetrovsk region — 69.9 thousand hectares.

However, in terms of actual sowing figures, the situation looks like this:

• Mykolaiv region — 60.3 thousand hectares (54.8% of the plan);
• Zhytomyr region — 34 thousand hectares (37%);
• Ternopil region — 16.1 thousand hectares (95.3%).

Thus, the sowing campaign for winter barley in Ukraine is progressing dynamically, and certain regions have already significantly exceeded the planned figures.
