The relevant data was published in a study by the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) titled “The Walnut Industry of Ukraine.”

Features of the Ukrainian Production Model

Analysts emphasize that in 2023, the export volume of Ukrainian walnuts amounted to about 77 million US dollars. At the same time, the industry is just beginning to commercialize—over 95% of walnuts are grown in private households rather than on industrial plantations.

This production model is described by experts as unique, as it significantly differs from the American system, where large industrial orchards prevail.

Export Potential and Integration into the EU

“Walnuts are one of the most promising export crops for Ukraine. They can become a flagship product for Ukraine’s agricultural integration into the EU. Even despite the war, fragmented production, and political challenges, our producers are capable of competing with leading European ones. To achieve this, it is necessary to provide entrepreneurs with seedlings and consultations. At the same time, the industry needs to align with EU requirements,” stated KSE.

Experts emphasize that for the further development of the industry, it is important to provide producers with quality seedlings and professional consultations, as well as to adapt production processes to European Union standards.
