Ukraine maintains its leading position among exporters of sunflower oil to European Union countries in the 2025/26 marketing year. According to a report by the European Commission released on February 12, from July 1, 2025, to February 1, 2026, EU member states imported just under 1.04 million tons of sunflower oil, which is less than the same period last year (1.28 million tons). Ukraine supplied 0.95 million tons of this volume.

Ukraine’s Market Share in the EU and Export Dynamics

According to estimates by Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft, Ukraine’s share in the supply structure of sunflower oil to the EU market is nearly 92%. This confirms the leading role of Ukrainian producers in the European market for this product. However, export volumes have decreased compared to last year, when shipments reached 1.2 million tons.

Experts explain the reduction in export volumes by a more limited supply of raw materials in the domestic market. According to the report, sunflower harvest in Ukraine in 2025 decreased to 10.5 million tons compared to 13 million tons in 2024. This affected the capacity for processing and exporting sunflower oil.

“Russian attacks on infrastructure and port facilities further suppressed logistical processes. However, market reports indicate a stabilization of export flows.”

Competition in the Market and Supply Geography

Following Ukraine, the leading exporters of sunflower oil to the European Union are Moldova and Serbia. According to analytics, Moldova accounts for 5% of the market, while Serbia accounts for just under 2%. At the same time, exports from Moldova have increased year-on-year, while Serbia has reduced its supply volumes compared to last year.

The decrease in harvest and logistical difficulties caused by Russian attacks on infrastructure and port facilities have negatively impacted export rates. Meanwhile, the market situation is gradually stabilizing, which provides grounds to forecast a recovery in exports in the near future.
