Ukrainian Strawberries Dominate the Lviv Market: Prices and Season Features

In the Lviv market, the main part of the supply consists of Ukrainian strawberries, the first batches of which are mainly arriving from Transcarpathia. Imported berries are also present, brought in from Turkey, Greece, and Spain, but day by day they are being pushed out by domestic products. This was reported by Tetiana Popovych, head of the marketing department at the wholesale agricultural market “Shuvar” in Lviv.

Price Situation and Comparison with Last Year
As of the third decade of May, the price of Ukrainian strawberries in Lviv markets ranges from 120 to 144 UAH per kilogram. In comparison, during the same period last year, the average price was 98 UAH/kg, meaning this year there is an increase in price of 22–30%, depending on the region and supply volumes.
Impact of Weather Conditions on the Start of the Season
The cool spring had a decisive impact on prices and supply.
Frosts in April and below-normal temperatures in May delayed the season by at least two weeks.
As a result, there is less early strawberry on the market, and its price remains elevated.
The peak strawberry season in Lviv is expected at the end of May to the beginning of June. If weather conditions are favorable, prices may drop to 80–100 UAH/kg. At the same time, analysts do not predict significant price reductions, as this year’s harvest is smaller, and costs for cultivation and logistics have increased.
It is expected that the main volumes of Ukrainian strawberries will appear in the markets of Lviv region in the first half of June.
