Vegetable Prices in Ukraine: Potatoes Are Getting Cheaper, Tomatoes Are Becoming More Expensive

The Ukrainian vegetable market is showing various price trends. In particular, the price of potatoes continues to decrease due to an oversupply and a decline in the quality of stored products. In retail chains, they cost between 28.40 and 40.50 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 25% higher than last year. In the wholesale market, prices have dropped to 15-25 hryvnias per kilogram, while young potatoes remain expensive – in supermarkets, they cost 42-45 hryvnias, and at markets, up to 70 hryvnias.

At the same time, the first Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes have appeared on the tomato market; however, their price (from 100 to 170 UAH/kg) significantly exceeds imported counterparts from Turkey (80-90 UAH/kg). Since the beginning of April, tomato prices have decreased by 10-15% due to increased imports and slower sales.
Price Stability for Onions and Forecasts for May 2025
Onions demonstrate the highest stability – their price in supermarkets is 15-17 hryvnias per kilogram, which is only 5% higher than last year’s figures.
Experts predict that in May 2025, vegetable prices will decrease by approximately 7% compared to April. A particular decline is expected in the prices of cabbage, carrots, and potatoes, but much will depend on weather conditions, which may affect the harvest and prices in the coming month.
