In March 2025, food prices in Ukraine continue to rise, as indicated by the data from the food monitoring of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UAC).

Experts point out that the main reasons for price fluctuations are changes in demand and supply, as well as seasonal factors affecting the market.

“The most significant price increase has been recorded in the vegetable category. Tomatoes have seen the highest price rise (+39% over the month), which is related to low volumes of domestic production and a prevailing import from Turkey, which has recently decreased somewhat. Carrots have also significantly increased in price, rising by 30% in retail price over the month. Their cost has gone up due to a high level of import dependence and a seasonal shortage of domestic products,” the association clarified.

Among other products that have noticeably increased in price, chicken should be mentioned. Prices for whole chickens have risen by 10%, fillets by 7%, and thighs by 5%. This increase is explained by consistently high feed costs, which are expected to stabilize gradually. Meanwhile, pork shows moderate growth (1-2%), while beef has increased by 4%.

Eggs have also risen in price by 10% over the month, reaching an average price of 73.1 UAH per dozen, almost matching the price in 2023 for the same period. The main factors influencing the price increase are feed costs and weather conditions.

“Egg prices have also increased by 10% over the month, reaching an average price of 73.1 UAH per dozen, nearly equal to the price in 2023 for the same period. The main influencing factors are feed costs and weather conditions,” UAC explained.

Dairy products continue to rise in price, although the rate of increase has somewhat slowed. The highest price increases have been seen in milk (+11%), Dutch cheese (+7%), and cream (+5%). The main reasons for the price rise in this category are seasonal factors, supported by fluctuations in temperature and climatic conditions. However, an increase in milk yields may change the price situation in the market with the onset of warmer weather, experts predict.

Prices for grocery items remain relatively stable, except for sunflower oil, which has increased by 4% over the month due to rising sunflower seed prices, analysts note.

“The only product that has noticeably decreased in price is wheat flour, which has lost 16% in value over the month. This can be explained by pre-holiday promotions in supermarkets and marketing strategies of chains to increase sales volumes ahead of the Easter holidays,” UAC summarized.
