Weather Conditions Favor Crop Development, but There Are Moisture Issues in Some Regions

The weather conditions observed during the second decade of April were generally favorable for the growth of major agricultural crops, contributing to the activation of fieldwork and an increase in yield.

According to the data from the Agro-Meteorological Bulletin of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, cold conditions with frosts persisted in the early days of the decade, which hindered the germination and development of plants. However, from April 13-14, warmer weather began to arrive, positively affecting plant growth and creating favorable conditions for spring vegetation.
Soil Moisture Levels and Regional Characteristics
Experts note that the reserves of productive moisture in the plowed and meter layers of soil under all major crops remained sufficient and optimal across most areas of the country, despite a prolonged lack of precipitation throughout April.
However, in some southern and central regions, moisture reserves under winter grains remained twice lower than the multi-year average for this period, which may complicate crop development and requires the attention of farmers.
“The reserves of productive moisture in the plowed and meter layers of soil under all crops in most areas were still sufficient and optimal, despite the prolonged lack of precipitation throughout April.”
The moisture situation remains relevant for regions with insufficient levels of precipitation, which may affect future harvests. Farmers need to take these factors into account when planning fieldwork and irrigation.
