Western Regions of Ukraine Show Growth in Pig Population for 2025
According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, the pig population in Ukraine shows a positive trend, reaching over 4.5 million heads, reported Arthur Loza, a member of the Strategic Development Council of the Sigma LLC, during the All-Ukrainian Forum “Pig Complex: Healthy Livestock — Guarantee of Profitability.”

He stated that as of January 1, 2025, the total pig population in the country was 4.48 million heads. He also emphasized that in recent years, the share of the private sector, where pigs are raised, has decreased, while the industrial segment shows growth.
Changes in the Structure and Geography of Pork Production
Arthur Loza noted that the share of agricultural enterprises in the total pig population reached 64%, while the population holds 36% of the livestock. At the same time, due to the war, the geographical distribution of pork production has undergone significant changes.
“In the eastern regions, the pig population has significantly decreased. Previously, Donetsk, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk regions, and partially Poltava and Kharkiv were leading. Instead, the new growth centers are in the western regions,” Loza reported.
“Positive dynamics are observed in Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions,” he added.
There is also growth in the pig population in Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions, where the increase is between 10 to 12%. This indicates an activation of pork production in various regions of Ukraine, despite the challenges of the current conditions.
