The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has updated its forecast for wheat exports from Kazakhstan for the 2025/26 marketing year, raising it to 9.5 million tons, which is 0.5 million tons more than the previous December forecast. At the same time, if we consider the export of feed flour, which is not included in the official forecast, the total volume of Kazakhstan’s wheat exports in grain equivalent this season could amount to about 12.5 million tons.

Harvest and Feed Flour Export Indicators

According to the Kazakhstan Grain Union, the volume of feed flour exports in the current marketing year is estimated at 3.1 million tons. Additionally, the USDA has estimated the wheat harvest in Kazakhstan for 2025 at 18.9 million tons. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, the gross wheat harvest (in bunker weight) reached 20.3 million tons.

Main Markets for Kazakhstan’s Wheat

Evgeny Karabanov, head of the Analytics Committee of the Kazakhstan Grain Union, emphasized the import forecasts for wheat by the largest buyers of Kazakh grain. According to USDA estimates, Uzbekistan will purchase 4.3 million tons of wheat this season, while Afghanistan will buy 4.6 million tons.

“According to the Grain Union, in the previous marketing season, Uzbekistan imported 4 million tons of wheat from Kazakhstan along with flour (in grain equivalent), while Afghanistan imported about 2 million tons.”

Thus, Kazakhstan maintains its position as one of the leading wheat exporters in the Central Asian market, meeting the demand of key partners in the region.
