In December 2025, ahead of the holidays, the Ukrainian consumer market experienced significant changes in prices for vegetables and fruits. The most notable price increases were seen in tomatoes, mandarins, lemons, and green onions. At the same time, there was an atypical decrease in prices for cucumbers and white cabbage during the winter period.

Main Changes in the Vegetable Segment

Tomatoes have risen to 70-100 UAH per kilogram, driven by increased demand ahead of the New Year celebrations. A particularly noticeable price increase has been observed for imported Turkish tomatoes, which have become approximately 10% more expensive and may continue to rise in value due to limited supply. Green onions have also significantly increased in price, now costing 100-120 UAH per kilogram, which has come as an unpleasant surprise for consumers.

In contrast, cucumbers have become cheaper: while they were sold for 90-160 UAH last week, the price has now dropped to 90-120 UAH per kilogram. This decrease is atypical for December, as prices for greenhouse vegetables usually rise at this time. White cabbage has also decreased in price from 8-10 to 6-10 UAH per kilogram, which maintains high consumer interest. The price reduction has also affected other types of cabbage: Beijing cabbage now costs 16-20 UAH instead of 22-25, and cauliflower — 25-35 UAH instead of 25-38 UAH. Despite the price drop, demand for Beijing cabbage remains consistently high.

Some vegetables, on the other hand, have become more expensive. Broccoli has increased in price from 50-60 to 70-90 UAH per kilogram, and radishes have also become pricier. Green onions, according to current quotes, remain one of the most expensive vegetables of the season.

Fruit Prices: Which Items Have Increased

In the fruit segment, the main price pressure is observed regarding citrus fruits. Lemons have increased in price over the week to 90-100 UAH per kilogram, while mandarins have risen to 65-95 UAH. Demand for these fruits traditionally increases before the New Year, and supply does not always meet the growing market needs, which leads to price increases.

“Demand for mandarins already exceeds supply, which explains their price increase.”

Oranges, on the other hand, have started to decrease in price due to increased supplies from Egypt and Iran. Although the upper price limit has slightly risen, the overall market trend indicates stabilization and a gradual decrease in the cost of this fruit.

Among other fruits, persimmons and pomegranates have seen the largest price increases. Currently, persimmons cost 80-90 UAH per kilogram, while pomegranates are priced at 115-140 UAH. There is sustained high demand for these items, especially among consumers seeking alternatives to traditional apples and citrus fruits. The price range for kiwis remains wide — from 85 to 335 UAH per kilogram. Bananas, in contrast, have a more stable price fluctuation — 58-65 UAH per kilogram.

Overall, the pre-holiday price changes for vegetables and fruits in Ukraine reflect both traditional seasonal trends and the influence of global markets, logistics, and dynamically changing demand at the end of the year.
