Decline in Popularity of IT Courses in Ukraine: Trend Analysis

In Ukraine, there is a noticeable decline in the popularity of IT courses compared to previous years. According to a study by Digital Tiger, prepared by the IT Ukraine Association, the number of completed courses shows a negative trend.

Trends in the Popularity of IT Courses

According to the conducted research, the highest number of completed courses was recorded in 2022, when this figure reached 129.1 thousand. However, since then, there has been a gradual decline: in 2023, 116.7 thousand courses were completed, and in 2024, this number decreased to 105.6 thousand.

It is worth noting that 21 companies participated in the survey, so these results may not fully reflect the overall market situation. Among the completed courses from 2019 to 2024, the majority pertain to technical specialties (71.4%), while non-technical specialties account for 28.6%. The most popular areas of study include: Python, QA (testing), UI/UX design, Java, Project Management, Data Management, SMM, C#/.NET, JavaScript, and PPC.

Situation in the IT Job Market

According to DOU analytics, the IT job market continues to gradually recover; however, the number of vacancies remains significantly lower than the figures prior to 2022. In February 2025, there were 5,856 vacancies in the IT sector, while in January 2022, there were 9,572.

In February, there was an increase in the number of vacancies in 10 categories, including Data Science, Embedded, Engineering Manager, Hardware, and others. However, in 44 categories, the number of vacancies decreased. It is also reported that in the “Reserve+” application, there are currently 161 IT vacancies available in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is a decrease compared to January when their number reached 169.

The average competition for vacancies in February and March was 15 candidates per position. In the “Reserve+” application, there were 6 candidates per vacancy, which corresponds to the figures from the previous period. For comparison, in January, the average competition was 10 candidates per vacancy.
