Denmark is investing over €225 million in the reconstruction and development of the Mykolaiv region as part of a new Transitional Program for Ukraine for 2025–2028. This initiative was discussed during a meeting of representatives from the Ministry of Development, local authorities of Mykolaiv, and the Kingdom of Denmark, where priorities for cooperation over the next three years were established.

Key Funding Areas

The total budget of Denmark’s Transitional Program (UTP) for Ukraine amounts to DKK 2.8 billion (approximately €375 million). Of this, up to 60% (DKK 1.68 billion or over €225 million) will be directed specifically to Mykolaiv. The remaining 40% of the funds will be distributed among other regions of the country.

Among the main areas and projects that will receive funding in Mykolaiv region are:

  • Infrastructure projects in the areas of water supply, centralized heating, and energy.
  • Renovation of educational institutions with the establishment of shelters and necessary procurements.
  • Rehabilitation and capacity building of civil society.
  • Reconstruction of social infrastructure (schools, hospitals), support for small and medium enterprises, development of agriculture, and demining activities.

Strategic Partnership and Humanitarian Demining

In addition, the United Nations Development Program, in collaboration with the Danish government, is launching a large-scale three-year project called “Strategic Partnership for Mykolaiv,” with a budget exceeding $36 million. The aim of the initiative is to create better living conditions for the region’s residents, support the return of those who were forced to leave their homes, and provide comprehensive assistance to socially vulnerable groups.

Particular attention within the partnership will be focused on humanitarian demining, which is crucial for the restoration of agricultural activities and the overall safety of the area.
