Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has repeatedly emphasized the importance of financial support for the Ukrainian military and for Ukraine as a whole. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia, Denmark has become one of the countries that has allocated the largest amounts of aid to Ukraine. However, in the coming years, the level of financial support from Copenhagen will decrease.

Reduction of Aid Levels in 2026

Denmark’s Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen announced that in 2026, Denmark plans to provide Ukraine with 9.4 billion kroner, which is equivalent to approximately 1.5 billion dollars. In comparison, in 2024, Copenhagen allocated 16.5 billion kroner (2.58 billion dollars) to Kyiv, and earlier — nearly 19 billion kroner (about 2.97 billion dollars). Thus, the levels of financial aid for Ukraine from Denmark are gradually decreasing.

Discussions on Further Support

The issue of reducing support has sparked discussions among Danish politicians. The defense spokesperson for the Danish Social Liberal Party, Stinus Lindgreen, urged not to cut aid to Ukraine in the current situation. He stated:

The problem is that we haven’t allocated new funds for a long time. If we believe that supporting Ukraine is so important, and I hear all parties talking about it, then now is the time to sit down in parliament and ensure that we have this money.

In 2023, the overwhelming majority of members of the Danish parliament supported the establishment of a Fund for Ukraine. In total, Denmark has already provided military assistance to Ukraine amounting to about 70 billion kroner, which is nearly 11 billion dollars.
