Dollar exchange rate exceeds 44 hryvnias on the interbank market: NBU sets new minimum

The National Bank of Ukraine has set a new historical minimum for the hryvnia against the US dollar, although the official exchange rate has not reached the mark of 44 hryvnias per dollar.

Official hryvnia exchange rate and situation on the interbank market

As of March 12, the NBU determined the official exchange rate at 43 hryvnias 97.76 kopecks per dollar. This is 11 kopecks higher than was recorded the previous day.

Meanwhile, on the interbank foreign exchange market of Ukraine, trading on March 11 ended at 44 hryvnias 15 kopecks per dollar. According to analysts at Bloomberg, during the trading session, quotes even exceeded 44.2 hryvnias per dollar.

Exchange rate dynamics over the past year

It is worth noting that on October 3, 2023, the hryvnia exchange rate changed for the first time since July 21, 2022. For over 14 months, the official exchange rate remained stable at 36 hryvnias 57 kopecks per dollar, after which it began to rise.

“The National Bank of Ukraine has updated the historical minimum of the hryvnia against the US dollar, although it has not recorded the level of 44 hryvnias per unit of American currency.”
