In February 2026, the demining units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine cleared 767 hectares of land that had been liberated after combat operations. This was reported by the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety.

Achievements in Demining Infrastructure and Agricultural Land

Throughout February, demining specialists restored access to 743.49 hectares of land, including roads and railway tracks, and cleared 11.32 hectares of agricultural land. Thanks to these efforts, over 79 kilometers of railway tracks were brought to a safe condition. Additionally, during operations, 117 explosive items left over from active combat were neutralized.

Operators and the Scale of Humanitarian Demining

According to the Main Department, the units responsible for clearing liberated territories of explosive remnants of war include demining teams from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, explosive ordnance disposal units of the National Police, and pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Humanitarian demining is carried out only by mine action operators in accordance with current Ukrainian legislation.

“In February 2026, the demining units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine cleared 767 hectares of liberated territories contaminated by explosive remnants of war due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation,” the statement reads.

The agency also reports that since the beginning of the war, over 481 thousand explosive items have been destroyed on the territory of Ukraine.
