Georgia Increased Sugar Exports 100 Times in 2025: Main Market – Azerbaijan

From January to November 2025, Georgia recorded a significant increase in sugar exports. In 11 months, the country exported 6,980 tons of sugar worth 3.5 million USD, which is over 100 times higher than the same figure from last year. In comparison, in 2024, the export volume for the same period was only 48 tons worth 35 thousand USD.

Azerbaijan Became the Main Importer of Georgian Sugar

The main destination for sugar exports from Georgia in 2025 was Azerbaijan, which received 6,979 tons of the product worth 3.5 million USD. Additionally, small batches of sugar were sent to Armenia.

Import Dynamics: Decrease in Volume and Value

Against the backdrop of a sharp increase in exports, sugar imports to Georgia from January to November 2025, on the contrary, decreased. During this period, 138,398 tons of sugar were purchased for 75.8 million USD, which is lower than the figures from 2024 (130,343 tons for 84.6 million USD). Thus, import expenses decreased by 10.3%, while the physical volume dropped by 6.1%.

The main suppliers of sugar to Georgia remain Brazil (48,500 tons, 22.3 million USD), France (26,924 tons, 16 million USD), Poland (26,783 tons, 15.5 million USD), and the Netherlands (19,999 tons, 4.4 million USD). The top ten also includes Ukraine (7,251 tons, 3.9 million USD), the United Kingdom (1,504 tons, 1 million USD), Germany (1,662 tons, 998 thousand USD), Switzerland (1,244 tons, 736 thousand USD), and Russia (1,079 tons, 732 thousand USD).

In 11 months, the country exported 6,980 tons of sugar worth 3.5 million USD, while for the same period in 2024, the export was only 48 tons worth 35 thousand USD. As a result, the export value increased approximately 100 times, and the physical volume increased about 145 times.
