Greek companies Depa Commercial and AKTOR Group have announced the establishment of a joint venture named Atlantic – SEE LNG Trade S.A. The new entity will specialize in the procurement and import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Greece, as well as organizing its further deliveries, including for consumers in Ukraine.

Potential Cooperation with Ukraine and Transit Expansion

During the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P‑TEC) summit, taking place in Greece on November 6-7, discussions are underway regarding the transportation of LNG via the Trans-Balkan route. This route allows for the delivery of gas from Greece to Eastern European countries, including Ukraine. The event features high-ranking officials from the United States, including Energy Secretary Chris Wright, as well as representatives from 25 countries across Europe and America. Special attention is being given to the development of LNG infrastructure in Greece and the increase of American gas supplies to Ukraine.

American LNG in Global Markets: Contract Dynamics and Political Influence

A contract for the supply of liquefied gas from the American company Venture Global to Ukrainian energy companies DTEK and Naftogaz is expected to be finalized soon. The new Greek company Atlantic – SEE LNG Trade will act as the intermediary in this deal. According to preliminary information, the supply volume will amount to 2 billion cubic meters per year, with transportation taking place via the Trans-Balkan route.

“In the past 10 months, LNG exporters have signed long-term contracts for the supply of 29.5 million tons of gas per year, which is more than 300% higher than the total for all of 2024.”

In 2025, American liquefied gas producers are demonstrating record contract signing rates not seen in the last three years. This is the second-highest figure in history, surpassed only by 2022, when demand for American LNG surged sharply following Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

With Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the American administration is actively supporting LNG exports in global markets, and the moratorium on approving new export projects has been lifted. This has stimulated a wave of investment decisions that will increase the total export capacity of the U.S. by an additional 61.5 million tons per year, on top of the existing 120 million tons. It is projected that by 2029, U.S. LNG export capacity will double, and by 2030, the country could account for one-third of the world’s exports of this resource.
