New Railway Route: Launch Details
Laude Smart Intermodal trains operate through the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, then proceed to the Turkish Black Sea coast or to the company’s own railway terminal in the Polish city of Zamość. The first intermodal train, formed with 50 specialized 20-foot containers from Laude, departed from the port of Chornomorsk on November 5. The implementation of this route also involved “Ukrzaliznytsia.”
The introduction of this new connection allows for a reduction in delivery time of goods from the Turkish region of Izmir, particularly from the port of Aliaga, to the terminal in Zamość by a full 10 days. This significantly enhances the competitiveness of the route in the international transportation market.
Strategic Importance and Development Prospects
The establishment of this connection is just the first step in Laude Smart Intermodal’s plans for sustainable transport links between EU countries and the Caucasus through Ukraine, particularly towards Georgia and Azerbaijan. Such solutions open new opportunities for carriers and businesses focused on export and import in strategically important regions.
“We did it. A few months after the initial announcements, we launched freight transportation to and from Turkey. We have a functioning and proven alternative to road transport and routes that go through Bulgaria and Romania,” emphasized Marcin Wyczak, CEO of Laude Smart Intermodal.
He also highlighted the economic advantages of the new route, which include reduced logistics costs, shorter overall transit times for goods, and increased efficiency in international trade. By using specialized containers, the new service allows for the transportation of both bulk and general cargo in standard or private containers. One train from Chornomorsk can transport twice as much cargo as alternative routes from Turkey or Romania.
For Laude Smart Intermodal, which remains one of the key intermodal operators in Ukraine, the launch of the Chornomorsk railway corridor creates opportunities for actively engaging exporters and importers from other countries in the region interested in the European Union market.
The company’s management emphasizes the importance of developing transport links with Turkey and Azerbaijan for Ukraine, which is expected to positively impact the growth of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The Trans-Caspian route is already developing as one of the key logistics pathways between Central Asia and Europe, and Laude Smart Intermodal continues to work on its expansion.
The new connection with Turkey also complements the already operational regular routes of Laude Smart Intermodal between Poland and Germany, as well as between the ports of the Benelux countries and the Ukrainian network of terminals.
