Poland Plans to Become a Gas Hub for the Region
At the same time, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that Poland will begin supplying American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Slovakia to replace dependence on Russian energy resources. Polish President Karol Nawrocki emphasized that his country will soon become a major logistics center for transporting LNG from the U.S. to Central and Eastern European countries. He noted that an LNG terminal in Świnoujście is already operational, and the completion of another terminal in the Baltic Sea is expected soon. Additionally, the countries are connected by a gas interconnector with Slovakia.
“In Poland, we have an LNG terminal in Świnoujście. The construction of the terminal in the Baltic Sea will also be completed soon. We have an interconnector with Slovakia. Therefore, Central and Eastern European countries face an important task, in which we must be united: complete independence from Russian gas,”
Possibility of Long-Term Energy Partnership
Ukraine has been purchasing American LNG through Poland since 2017. Currently, negotiations are ongoing between the Polish energy company PKN Orlen and Ukrainian Naftogaz regarding the conclusion of a long-term gas supply contract. Deepening cooperation between Warsaw and Kyiv could facilitate the establishment of a regional gas hub, strengthening the energy security of the entire Central and Eastern Europe.
