Automation of Milking and Shortening the Supply Chain

The farm uses a round-the-clock automated milking system with robotic technology. After milking, the milk undergoes pasteurization, cooling, and is bottled, with each bottle indicating which specific cow it came from. This allows consumers to trace the source of the product and be assured of its quality.

The finished milk is delivered directly from the ElkeMelk farm to Albert Heijn supermarkets, bypassing traditional intermediate steps—factories, warehouses, and middlemen. This approach reduces the supply chain by at least five days compared to standard methods.

Freshness, Quality, and Pricing

Thanks to optimized logistics, the milk can appear on store shelves on the same day it is milked. This guarantees exceptional freshness and high quality, which favorably distinguishes it from traditional milk.

“The price of a bottle of this individualized milk is higher than that of regular milk in supermarkets: €2.74 compared to €1.19-€1.39 respectively.”

Individualized milk costs more than regular milk: €2.74 per bottle, while regular milk in supermarkets is priced from €1.19 to €1.39.
