Spain Maintains Leadership in Pork Exports

Spain has strengthened its position as the leading exporter of pork in the EU, accounting for over a third of the total European export of this type of meat. In the first three months of 2025, the country increased its export volumes by 12% compared to last year. Meanwhile, the Netherlands and Denmark occupy the second and third places with a noticeable gap. In contrast, Germany, which has traditionally been one of the industry leaders, has fallen to sixth place among major exporters this year. The significant decline in exports from Germany is attributed to export restrictions caused by outbreaks of animal diseases — volumes have dropped by nearly a third.

Main Markets and Export Structure

Frozen pork remained the most in-demand category, with exports reaching about 432 thousand tons. Together with by-products, these two groups accounted for approximately 72% of the total pork export from the EU.

The key importer of European pork remained China, with other important buyers including the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and Japan.

“Spain has maintained its position as the leading exporting country in the EU with an export share of over a third. The country increased its exports by 12% compared to the previous year.”
