Opportunities for the Development of the Shrimp Business in Ukraine and the Prospects for Agritourism
The shrimp business in Ukraine is gaining new momentum for growth due to the global increase in demand for seafood and the decline in wild catch volumes. This creates favorable conditions for the expansion of the aquaculture sector within the country.

Stable Demand and Product Diversification
There is a stable growth in interest in quality, fresh, and locally grown shrimp in the domestic market. Ukrainian consumers are increasingly choosing products from local producers, turning away from cheap frozen imported shrimp of questionable quality. In addition, shrimp farms are actively expanding their product range through processing: producing pastes, canned goods, and culinary semi-finished products. This approach allows for increased profitability and competition in the premium segment of the market.
Agritourism and Social Responsibility
“Another promising direction is agritourism based on shrimp farms,” notes Oleksiy Slepnyev. “These can include tours, tastings, educational workshops, and interactive formats focused on environmental education and the promotion of local production. In some regions, such farms already function as mini-centers of gastronomic tourism, opening new opportunities for the development of rural communities.”
The social component plays a significant role in the development of the industry. Experts note that veterans of war, people with disabilities, and internally displaced persons are involved in aquaculture projects. This contributes to the creation of new jobs in rural areas, strengthening the local economy, and integrating vulnerable groups into the modern labor market. Such initiatives are supported by both state and international programs.
Additional impetus for the development of the shrimp industry is provided by government support tools: microgrants of up to 250,000 hryvnias, preferential lending, educational programs from business incubators, as well as participation in specialized exhibitions, conferences, and competitions for biotechnology startups. This comprehensive set of measures helps Ukrainian entrepreneurs implement innovations, increase production, and strengthen their positions in the seafood market.
