Procurement Prices for Pigs in Ukraine Will Fall Below 60 UAH per Kilogram

In Ukraine, a decrease in procurement prices for live pigs to the level of 59-60 UAH per kilogram is expected as early as next week.

Reasons for the Price Decrease for Pigs

Analysts from the “Meat Industry” association note that last week, procurement prices for market pigs continued to decline. The market predicts that in the coming days, the procurement price will be in the range of 59-60 UAH/kg.

“This week, procurement prices for market pigs have again gone down and, according to market expectations, will form next week in the range of 59-60 UAH/kg. The main factors putting pressure on prices remain the surplus supply of pigs, particularly due to the further spread of African swine fever (ASF) in Ukraine, seasonal decreases in demand for all types of meat, and disruptions in electricity supply,” the association explained.

Among the main factors influencing price dynamics, experts highlight the excess supply of pigs caused by the spread of African swine fever (ASF), seasonal reductions in meat demand, and frequent disruptions in electricity supply, which complicate the operations of pig complexes and meat processing enterprises.

Current Situation in the Ukrainian and European Markets

This week, procurement prices for pigs in Ukraine ranged from 63-65 UAH per kilogram. At the same time, prices in European markets remain higher. In particular, at the German VEZG exchange, the price for conditioned pig carcasses is forecasted to be 1.45 €/kg for next week, which is equivalent to 73.44 UAH/kg, while the price for sow carcasses is 0.70 €/kg (35.45 UAH/kg, excluding VAT).

On the Polish CennikRolnicze exchange, the average price for live pigs is 4.03 zloty per kilogram (48.16 UAH/kg). The price range for live pigs in Poland is from 3.40 to 5.50 zloty per kilogram, which translates to 40.63–65.72 UAH/kg.
