EU Temporarily Bans Export of Ukrainian Eggs Due to Chlorpyrifos Detection
The European Commission has suspended the export of chicken eggs from Ukraine after residues of chlorpyrifos—a pesticide that has been banned in the EU for several years due to health risks—were found in a batch of this product.

“The European Commission blocked the export of Ukrainian products after chlorpyrifos was detected in the eggs. This substance was banned in the EU several years ago due to health risks. Now, Ukrainian producers will have to explain how this substance ended up in their products.”
Detection of Violation at the Enterprise
The presence of the banned substance was established during an inspection at the ‘Yasensvit’ enterprise in the Khmelnytskyi region. European auditors found traces of chlorpyrifos in the eggs sent for export. This insecticide was previously widely used in agriculture; however, due to its proven negative impact on the human nervous system, its use is categorically prohibited in EU countries.
Following the incident, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection promptly intervened. ‘Yasensvit’ is now prohibited from exporting its products to the European Union until the investigation is completed and all circumstances are clarified. This step poses a significant threat to both the enterprise itself and the overall image of Ukrainian food products in international markets.
Impact on the Industry and Next Steps
This event has become a worrying signal for the entire poultry sector in Ukraine. The European market is one of the key markets for Ukrainian exporters, but the requirements for product quality and safety there are particularly high. Violations of standards, even isolated cases, can lead to a loss of trust and significant financial losses.
Experts suggest that chlorpyrifos may have entered the eggs through poultry feed or during the processing of production facilities. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact route of contamination. The enterprise must prove that this was an isolated incident and not a systemic problem, as well as ensure the safety of all other products.
Export Restrictions and Consequences for Producers
The temporary export ban will remain in effect until all inspections are completed and evidence of the safety of other products is provided. It is crucial for Ukrainian producers to quickly conduct their own investigation and convince European partners of their compliance with all standards. Each day of delay means financial losses and the risk of losing positions in the European market.
This situation serves as a reminder for other producers: access to the EU markets is only possible with strict adherence to European requirements and standards without exceptions.
