In Ukraine, there is a noticeable increase in the profitability of cattle farming (beef cattle). The main factor driving farmers to develop the industry has been the high prices of beef in 2024–2025.

Experts Warn of Possible Herd Reduction

Specialists point out that active cattle sales could lead to a significant reduction in the cattle population as early as 2025–2026. Oleksandr Nazarko, co-founder of Global Agro Finance, notes that despite the likely stability in the number of animals in the industrial sector, there is an increasing imbalance in the market. Small and medium-sized farms are increasingly leaving the market, while large agricultural enterprises are ramping up production.

“The key factor remains the pricing situation in the dairy sector — high feed costs and low milk prices are reducing the economic efficiency of farms. Therefore, many farms are forced to sell part of their cows to ensure cash flow.”

Producers Adapt to Market Conditions

A farmer from the Poltava region, Oleksiy Bovdyr, shares that his farm maintains a herd of 3,500 cattle, of which 1,300 are dairy cows. The enterprise is engaged in both milk production and the fattening of dairy and beef breeds of cattle. Previously, the farm raised the Aberdeen-Angus breed, known for its premium marbled beef. With the onset of winter, this direction was temporarily halted due to a lack of space; however, this was not due to unprofitability, as the demand for quality beef remains high.
