The dairy industry in Ukraine continues to actively develop, despite the loss of production capacities in the eastern part of the country. In recent years, key investments in dairy production have been concentrated in the central and western regions, where the construction and modernization of 125 dairy farms have begun.

Investments in the Future of the Dairy Industry
As reported by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, during the industry conference, current projects in the dairy sector represent a strategic investment in the future of the agro-industrial complex. The new and modernized farms are expected to not only increase production potential but also ensure sustainable development of the industry and its competitiveness in both domestic and foreign markets.
Vitaliy Koval emphasized that the resilience of the dairy business serves as an example for other sectors of the economy. In his opinion, effective distribution of margins among all participants in the chain—producers, processors, and retailers—has become a matter of not only economic benefit but also trust.
“Only synergy among all participants can provide the scale effect needed to create added value both in the country and for export. I am grateful for the open and professional dialogue. It was a fruitful conversation that, I am convinced, will have practical results for the industry. Pricing is the key to fairness in the chain,” emphasized Vitaliy Koval.
Transition to Value-Added Products
The Minister also noted that it is time for the Ukrainian dairy industry to shift from exporting raw materials to producing finished products with high added value. He provided an example: the average cost of a ton of Ukrainian agro-export is 291 euros, while in EU countries, this figure reaches 1536 euros. Such a difference demonstrates the advantages of developing the processing industry and exporting finished products.
According to Vitaliy Koval, it is necessary to strive for livestock and processing to make up more than half of the agricultural sector, which will increase farmers’ incomes, promote regional development, and strengthen Ukraine’s competitiveness in the global market.
