In April 2026, an audit of the state control system in the pig farming sector will begin in Ukraine. The event will be conducted by a mission from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE).

Purpose and Significance of the Audit for the Industry

The start of the mission was announced by the head of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Serhiy Tkachuk, during a public report of the agency. According to him, Ukraine has long initiated this audit, and only through persistent negotiations was it possible to reach an agreement for its conduct in 2026.

“Work in this direction is both important and meticulous, as the relevant law on veterinary medicine and animal welfare came into effect in March, and the audit will start in April,” he noted.

Previous Experience of Cooperation with DG SANTE

Furthermore, Serhiy Tkachuk reminded that from September to October 2025, a DG SANTE mission already operated in Ukraine. At that time, experts assessed state control regarding residues of veterinary drugs, pesticides, and contaminants in animals and animal products.

As a result of last year’s audit, a positive conclusion was obtained: the state control system in Ukraine meets the requirements and principles applied in the European Union. Auditors emphasized that control is carried out consistently, laboratory studies are reliable, and responses to violations are effective.
