Polish farmers are preparing a new wave of protests at the border with Ukraine, escalating tensions in logistics chains and creating additional difficulties for Ukrainian carriers and exporters.

Reasons for the Escalation of Protests

The main demand of Polish farmers remains the restriction of imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. They believe that Ukrainian goods negatively affect the domestic market of Poland, although statistics often refute these claims. In addition, farmers express dissatisfaction with the European “Green Deal” and the insufficient level of financial support from the government.

The organizers of the protests have announced a large-scale action at the “Medyka – Shehyni” border crossing. Such blockades are often portrayed as a “struggle for the survival” of the Polish countryside, but it is long-haul truck drivers who suffer the most, as they are forced to stand in traffic jams for several days.

It is hard to ignore the fact that such actions always arise at the most inconvenient time for Ukraine. This has turned into a kind of tool for blackmail, where the border becomes a hostage to Poland’s internal disputes with Brussels. One hopes for common sense, but history shows that equipment on the roads appears faster than effective solutions.

Consequences for Logistics and the Economy

According to preliminary information, a new phase of the blockade may begin as early as the beginning of March. Ukrainian businesses will have to redirect flows through Slovakia or Romania again, significantly increasing logistics costs. Delays at the border lead to additional financial losses for Ukraine’s budget, which continues to fight for economic stability in wartime conditions.

Despite assurances from the Polish government in search of a compromise, farmers’ organizations insist on the immediate implementation of financial compensation and import restrictions. Whether the Polish authorities can avoid a complete transport collapse this time remains an open question.
