Price Forecast for Mackerel and Other Fish in Ukraine: What Consumers Can Expect
In Ukraine, there has been an increase in the price of one of the most popular fish — mackerel. In contrast, the prices of most other fish species remain stable, although the overall price level for fish products is still higher than last year. The future situation in the market will depend on a number of important factors.

Main Factors Influencing Prices
Economic expert Taras Kozak explains that the formation of prices for frozen fish is influenced not only by inflation. Significant roles are played by fluctuations in the exchange rate, catch volumes, changes in demand, as well as the situation in global markets. Other aspects, such as quota restrictions on catches, logistical difficulties, and overall economic stability, also have an impact.
Mackerel Prices Rise Due to Quotas, Other Fish Remain Stable
Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Fish and Seafood Importers Dmytro Zahumenniy believes that the current market situation remains relatively predictable. However, prices may change if new risks arise. Among potential threats, he mentions power supply disruptions, exchange rate fluctuations, or logistical difficulties at borders, as has happened in the past.
“What will the situation be with electricity supply, what will the exchange rate be, whether there will be any border blockages like two years ago, and other factors that could affect imports. Then this could undoubtedly have an impact. For now, if everything remains relatively stable and predictable, prices will remain stable,” – Dmytro Zahumenniy.
Currently, fish prices, apart from mackerel, which is rising due to quota restrictions on catches, are not showing significant increases. However, experts warn that a deterioration in the power supply situation, sharp fluctuations in exchange rates, or new logistical challenges could lead to an increase in the price of imported fish. At the same time, the industry is gradually adapting to changes, and a sharp spike in fish product prices is not expected in the near future.
